Asset Management for Engineering Certificate
This Certified Technical Specialist in Asset Management course is approved by the World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM) - CTAM exam included.
Description
Overview
This specially tailored version of the Certified Technical Asset Management (CTAM) course equips engineering professionals with the knowledge, tools, and practical skills to apply asset management principles within engineering design, technical planning, reliability, asset lifecycle management, and engineering decision-making. Drawing on internationally recognised frameworks such as ISO 55001 and the Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM) Asset Management Landscape, this course helps engineering professionals bridge the gap between technical engineering practices and effective asset management decision-making, supporting optimised asset performance, lifecycle value, risk management, and the achievement of organisational objectives.
Why This Course Matters for Engineering
Engineering professionals play a critical role in ensuring assets deliver sustainable value through informed technical decisions, effective design, reliability, and lifecycle management. Yet traditional engineering practices often focus on technical specifications, design compliance, and immediate project requirements rather than whole-of-life asset performance and value.
This course:
-
Translates core asset management principles into engineering language and practices that engineering professionals can readily apply.
-
Explains how engineering decisions influence asset reliability, maintainability, lifecycle costs, risk, performance, and long-term value.
-
Connects engineering design, technical standards, and lifecycle planning to organisational objectives and service delivery outcomes.
-
Empowers engineering professionals to contribute strategically to asset management decisions, moving beyond technical compliance and engineering specifications.
Why In-house
When we deliver a private (in-house) course, we tailor it to your organisation.
This will include:
-
Organisational Culture
-
Industry-Specific Engineering Practices
-
Technical and Commercial Considerations
-
Asset Owner vs Asset Steward Considerations
-
Lifecycle Ownership and Engineering Accountability
-
Addressing Customer and Operational Requirements
-
Engineering Capability Uplift
Who Should Attend
This course is ideal for engineering managers, design engineers, project engineers, systems engineers, reliability engineers, maintenance engineers, technical specialists, engineering consultants, and engineering professionals who want to:
-
Deepen their understanding of how engineering decisions influence asset reliability, lifecycle costs, risk, performance, and long-term value creation.
-
Confidently contribute to asset lifecycle planning, technical governance, engineering assurance, and strategic asset management initiatives within their organisation.
Course Outcomes
Upon completion, engineering professionals will be able to:
-
Apply core asset management principles to engineering design, technical planning, reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle decision-making.
-
Understand how engineering functions support an Asset Management System (AMS) aligned with ISO 55001 requirements.
-
Engage key stakeholders across engineering, operations, maintenance, projects, and asset management to align technical decisions with organisational objectives.
-
Apply practical engineering and asset management concepts to evaluate design options, lifecycle performance, technical risks, costs, and value.
-
Support continuous improvement through effective asset information, risk-based engineering decisions, performance measures, and lifecycle optimisation.
TESTIMONIALS
-
"I would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to extend their knowledge in Asset Management."
-
"The course was well structured with and very good link to the practical application of asset management."
-
"Martin was an excellent presenter and did a great job at using a wide range of examples."
-
"Valuable examples, Martin's vast experience, right content to what I was looking for."
-
"I liked the presenters enthusiasm which kept me engaged and an active participant. I also enjoyed the different intractability aspects with polls."
-
"The way to assess each lifecycle stage of an asset in terms of 'Why, What, and How'. Asking those questions is something that I am going to start adopting as a work principle. Also, this course is a one stop solution to build connection between different ISO 5500x series standards."

YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Martin Kerr designed this course after seeing many organisations “overcomplicating” Asset Management, separating it from Engineering, and failing to realise its value.
Martin began his career as a Maintenance Fitter and Machinist. He has front-line operational experience in complex commercial environments and served as CEO of a heavy-maintenance business. He previously served as an Advanced Design Manager, sitting between Sales and core Engineering.
Organisations need to realise that, for the most part, they are already doing Asset Management! Even if they don’t know it, organisations without physical assets will gain value by adopting Asset Management principles and increasing their market share.
Martin's Experience
- Certified Fellow in Asset Management (CFAM)
- Asset Management Certified Professional (AMCP)
- Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA)
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP)
- Lead convenor of ISO55001:2024
- Technical Director of the World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM)
- Contributor to the Global Forum of Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM)
